Winter Hair Problems?

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Winter can be miserable for your hair, because when you step out in open the air it is cold or rather chilling, and when you’re inside you’re surrounded by dry heat.

Every time you go from indoors to outdoors or from outdoors to indoors, not just your body and your skin but even your hair experiences a lot of stress. Both these extremes run havoc on your hair, and if you do not follow the right hair care program, during winters, your crowning glory may turn into an unmanageable mess.

Here are some quick tips to give your glorious mane the royal treatment that it deserves.

Flyaway hair

That’s the most commonly encountered a hair problem during winters, which makes your hair wild and frizzy. Flyway hair is usually a problem when your hair is dry. Extreme temperature changes and the dry indoor air works further against you, as it takes away the moisture from your hair.

To quickly add some moisture and body to your hair, apply a leave-in conditioner and your hair is ready to be styled. Certain fabrics, especially woolens, create static charges and when your hair rubs against such fabric, the hair becomes frizzy.

And since, you can’t do without woolens during winters, using a leave in conditioner will help to neutralize the static charge and to prevent your hair from becoming frizzy.

There is a wide range of leave-in conditioners to choose from, and you can select the one that appeals to you in terms of fragrance, besides keeping in mind your particular hair problem.

Limp hair

Limp hair is more of a problem for those who have thin hair or oily scalp. The dry heat indoors makes the oil glands in the scalp to produce even more oil, which causes your hair to weigh down.

To deal with this problem you need to understand, that proteins are the building blocks of the hair. And if you want to add body to your hair so as to make them look fluffy, you need to choose protein based hair shampoos and conditioners.

There are lots of hair care products that can supply your hair with the desired proteins, and to find these products you need to frisk through the cosmetic racks of the departmental stores.
